Trouble uploading avi.

I am trying to upload avi. video files which are saved on my computer into
WMM to create a movie. I am able to select the file, but as soon as it
begins to download a message pops up stating "Windows Movie Maker has
encountered a problem and needs to close". None of my video files are longer
than 3 minutes (58 MB). I have never used this program before, but just to
see I tried importing pictures and did so with any trouble. What could be
the problem???

AVI is just a wrapper and has 800+ file types within it.

Only one of these is truly compatible with MM, and this is dv.avi.

avi files which come from the net are mostly highly compressed ones like
divx/xvid and will cause this problem. If you wish to sue these video files
you need to convert them to wmv, apps here
