I am getting "server not available".

Yep.

I'm getting "Cannot connect to download7.avast.com (67.15.0.90:80)."
most recently. Also got "Cannot connect to www.iavs.cz
(217.31.49.244:80)." last night, and am unable to ping it. I think
that's the core server, look in Program Files > Alwil > Avast4 > Data
