Trouble saving

Hi, I'm trying to save my movie to either my hard drive or disc and keep getting the generic error message. I'm not sure if it's too large or what. It has 140 pictures with transitions and video effects on most of them. When I copy a small portion of the project and create a new project and then try to save it to my computer it seems to work. Does this mean I have a memory problem and the project is too large? My computer is a 2.4G with 256RAM and a 60G hard drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Phil,

MM2 is limited by available memory combined with the virtual memory swap
file. It's the 'complexity' of the information in a project.

As you can save smaller projects, it might be that tuning up your virtual
memory would work. You may be limited by your 256 MB of RAM combined with
your settings.

See the Problem Solving checklist page for a link to a tutorial about
Virtual Memory settings (it's in the section about Limitations). And see the
Can't Save a Movie page for other info.

I'd do a hard drive tune-up (free space and defrag) and try again.... before
assuming it's too complex.

HI there,

I'll tell you this quick...before PAPAJOHN decides to tell you exactly the
same thing again...pain in the rear end he is....

There is a bit of a problem with movie maker itself. It is not very likely
to be your systems RAM

The solution is to make a DV-AVI out of say the first 50, then reimport
that and add the rest of the stills to the end of that one....very tacky
but thats the way it is.

You could always download MovieXone from my website and use that...with
some very interesting transitions as we,ll...there is no such limit with
that program.

Thanks for your reply. Where do I find this checklist and how do I adjust
the virtual memory. I did get a message before the MM2 error that stated
"virtual memory minimum too low"

Hi there,

Movie Maker has big problems when the number of objects exceeds 100. There
are a few reasons why this is so, they are not worth going into here.

Whilst the amount of RAM available is always important, and by the way the
256MB RAM is below the ideal amount you really need, it lack of will simply
cause the program to run very slowly when compiling a file.

Your solution will be in there creation of at least two separate videos
which you can then re-import and join them together. Provided you work at
the highest resolution possibly, DV-AVI in the case of Movie Maker, you
should not suffer any degradation of quality by taking this approach
