trouble running internet

we recently had that worm virus that had been infecting
computers and I ran the patch from microsoft and it seemed
to work for a while and now every time I go to open the
internet I get an message that reads either

internet explorer has encountered a problem needs to shut
down

or mfc needs to shut down is there any downloads that
would address this problem
