I click on a link that is supposed to take me to a pdf file that should open
in a new window, but it doesn't. It used to for this URL on prior occasions
before a recent Windows ME update. Thinking that it is the security that
won't let me, I set it to Low and checked my firewall so that is lets me
download PDF files, but I still can't open the page. What might be my
problem? What have I missed? All I get is a small box in the upper left
corner with a small "x" in it.

thanks

Try the following and see if it helps:

Can not connect to PDF files

I found the problem thanks to Ramesh and his excellent
troubleshooting guide. The pdf.ocx file was not registered. Works
fine now.

please post back to this thread with the details and any error messages.

Hope this helps

Try this. Open Control Panel. Click on Add or Remove Programs. Click on the
Change Tab under Adobe Acrobat and Reader. Follow allong to repair Adobe.
Once I did this, that fixed the problem.

Manish,

I don't think pdf.ocx comes with Adobe Reader 7.0. Generally, uninstalling /
reinstalling Adobe will fix most of the problems. I experienced similar
problems when I was using both version ( 5.x and 7.x), and removing the
older version fixed the problem instantly.
