Has anyone solved the problem of being unable to open attachments in Windows
mail? I can't open office documents, pdf files, or photos unless I save them
to my computer. I get the error message noted by others .. Windows can't
find the file ..... temp....

I don't have McAfee. I use Trend Internet Security.

Try disabling Trend and see if that changes the behavior. Its not a problem
inherently with WinMail.

Rob Found The Solution:

PROBLEM SOLVED!!! I had the same problem and would get the error
message..."This file does not have a program associated with it for
performing this action..." It turns out the attachments do have what SHOULD
be the right associations in Control Panel but they are all Microsoft Office
programs. The problem is that in the "new" Windows Mail, Windows Mail can’t
open any attachments that are part of the Microsoft Office Suite - documents
(ie.doc) Power Point (.pps) etc. Seems the folks at Microsoft don't know how
to communicate with each other – or help us! I solved this problem by getting
Open Office from Sun Micro Systems - a 100% free Office Suite package. I then
changed the file associations from Microsoft Office Word, Office Power Point,
etc to the Open Office program equivalents. Everything works great now!

Probably user error. It is not true that "Windows Mail can’t open any
attachments that are part of the Microsoft Office Suite". I do know that
some people try to solve problems without adequately reading what they need
to read and without paying an expert to do their reading for them, then they
blame Microsoft when things don't work. Computers are complicated machines.
You will likely encounter a problem with Open Office and the documentation
of it is worse.

At least then you won't be complaining here.
