This is the first time I have used Frontpage and need to
work on a remote web site. When I try to open the web
site in Frontpage I get the userid/password request. I
have confirmed that I have the correct userid and
password, but when I enter them, the userid/password
request just comes back. I have not been able to open it.

I have been able to import it, however, and to make the
changes. When I publish the changed pages, using FTP, it
seems to work and I get a log, but no changes actually
appear on the site.

I am not technically sophisticated. Help, please?

Does the remote server have the FP extensions, if so avoid using FTP and
importing. Have you contacted the host?

The hosting service does not use FP. When I contacted
them, they just confirmed that the userid and password
were right. Haven't been much help otherwise...

If they don't have FP extensions, is there an alternative?

Without the host having the FP extensions, it is not possible to open the
site directly in FP on the remote server. You are limited to using FTP as
you have been.

You will not be able to use any FP features which require the run-time
extensions, such as the FP Form Handler, Discussion Web, hit counter, etc.
