Where can I locate "default" or "standard" networking
configurations settings - to create a local network for 2
machines?

My laptop has Win2000 and my desktop has XP Home.

The XP home network client setup wizard did not work for
the Win2000 laptop.

I'm trying to locate step-by-step configuration settings
for both machines (Win2000 and XP Home)

I would like to start from scratch - and re-check all
networking setting on both machines - just to make sure I
have everything configured correctly.

Thanks for your help.

The default network settings on Win2000 and XP should be compatible:

1. TCP/IP as only protocol.
2. Obtain an IP address automatically.

It isn't strictly necessary, but networking is a little easier if you
specify the same workgroup name on both computers. The default name
in XP is MSHOME.
