trouble loading websites

hi-
i am having trouble loading some of my regular
websites........netgrocer.com, netflix.com, hydrofarm.com. i keep
getting the "cannot display the webpage" error (in IE7). but other
websites work fine. i use XP Home on windows with a dsl connection.

this is what i have tried so far:

deleted cookies, browser history, etc
turned off security programs
tried different browsers (prob happens in both browsers)
checked with my isp (no isp problems)
had other people try the websites (they work for them)
reset the modem
flushed the dns cache
tried using IP addresses instead, but it didn't make a difference with
one exception. i could load one page in netgrocer.com. but all the
other netgrocer pages wouldn't load
ran the IE diagnostic program but it didn't find anything
tried a few different restores (with the last restore my firefox browser
is not working right and IE runs slower).

i am getting quite nervous. i really need my computer...it literally is
a lifeline for me.

i'm going to try the test for incompatibility with other programs (gonna
run msconfig).

any other ideas? thanks.
 
hi again-
false alarm about firefox and IE changes (after the system restore).
they are both working ok now. AVG was running behind the scene and
slowing IE down. and FF fixed itself when i did a page reload.

but i still have the website issue! love to hear some ideas. thanks.
 
I get that error message on some web sites - even with IE6. I've searched
for solutions, too, and, as of yet, haven't found any - except by using
Firefox on those problematic sites. I think that's the way it is....

PS: I had read in some places that this error message had something to do
with some problematic coding in Javascript, and the way IE handles that, but
there is nothing WE, as users, can do about that, since that's over at the
web site.
