I have experienced online crashes for almost a year. The
Update site says I need ServicePack1 update. Whenever I
try to download and install this, it always fails upon
installation. I've tried ordering the Service Pack on
CD. Whenever I try to install the CD, it says that there
is a later version of Internet Explorer already on my
computer, and it connected go any further. Whenever I
crash online, I send an error report and it always says
that I need this SErvice Pack1. I don't know what to
do. Any thoughts?

Here's a few things that could help:
You Cannot Finish Installing or Upgrading Internet
Explorer
If you try to install Internet Explorer, you may
experience the following behavior: You receive one of the
following error messages:
Setup was unable to download all the required components
for this installation. Please try Setup again, and select
Resume Setup.
Setup was unable to install all the components. Please
close all applications and try running Setup again.
The computer stops responding (hangs) during the
installation.

JR thanks for your help, but I guess I don't understand
your instructions. You'll have to forgive me, but I'm
not that computer savvy, I guess.
Why do you think I can't seem to install the Service
Pack1 from the CD I ordered from Microsoft?
I've tried uninstalling IE so I can "start fresh" with
installing from the CD, but I can't seem to do that.
I'm truly very frustrated. You mentioned Mozilla. Is
that a browser? Will it replace IE?

Hi Theresa,
Sorry for not being more clear...
Let's try again. Here's is the procedure to follow when
you cannot install IE and your machine says that it
already has a newer version:

When you try to reinstall the same version of Internet
Explorer, you may receive the following error message:

Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer
already installed on this system.
Setup cannot continue.
To avoid this error message and reinstall the same
version of Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, follow
these steps:
While you are logged on as an administrator, click Start,
and then click Run.
In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
Locate the appropriate registry subkey, right-click the
IsInstalled (REG_DWORD) value, and then click Modify.

To reinstall only the Internet Explorer 6 browser
component on Windows XP, use the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active
Setup\Installed Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-
00AA005B4383}

To reinstall only Outlook Express 6 on Windows XP, use
the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active
Setup\Installed Components\{44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-
00AA00B6015C}

Change the value data from 1 to 0, and then click OK.
Quit Registry Editor, and then install Internet Explorer
6.
To reinstall Windows XP updates, visit the following
Microsoft Windows Update Web site:

Hope this helps !
