Trouble Installing Programs

I'm having difficulty installing programs on my computer. It displays the
following error:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to
terminate the application.

I don't know what's up with that program, all I know is I can't install the
things I need to. Anyone know how to fix this?
