Sorry if this seems to mudain but I a newbie. I have a
Windows 2000 server running in our small workgroup. (Not
a Domain) I need to get to the server from my desktop
(XP Pro) I installed terminal services on server. When I
try to connect I get an error message "The client cannot
connect to the server" Does remote desktop work in a
workgroup? Any Ideas would be helpfull.

Sounds like you're doing to much work...if you only need RDP for Remote
Administration then you don't need to do anything with TS...by default Win2k
Server will be in Remote Administration mode allowing two concurrent
connections which will generally suffice for admin purposes, otherwise make
sure you've added yourself to the appropriate access groups and there are no
IP or Security settings you may have set that could restrict connections to
that server on port 3389. If I remember correctly you can just remove the
TS role and Win2k should revert to Remote Admin mode...I'm sure others here
can verify!

I dont think that works the reason is I have a second PC
running 2K server and when I go to RDT on the XP and
browse only the Server comes up in the list. I choose
the server and try to connect. That is when I get the
error. Also, I have checked Local Users and Groups and I
am listed as an Admin with connect rights. Am I missing
something? By the way only SP2 installed could that be
related?
