Trouble backing up Quicken files to DVD RW drive

I have a Sony DRU 810A DVD R/RW drive that I use to backup Quicken files. I
have a problem that seems to occur whether I use Nero version 6 or the
Windows XP (SP2) cd writing software. Whether I'm using either program, I
have the same type of problem. I will insert a blank CR-R to back up my
Quicken files ( I only use the program to keep track of my checks) and it
will work for the first few times no problem. But after 5-10 times backing
up files, when I insert the CD-R, it either comes up blank (in windows
explorer) or just hangs up and doesn't read at all. And no, the disk is not
full, it only has about 10 Mb of data on it. Can someone please help?? I'm
thinking of going back to using floppy disks, at least they were reliable!!!

Cheaper than CD's in the long run, much more reliable than floppy's, and
easier to use than either is a usb flash drive. I use a Sandisk 1 GB SD
+USB card. It has a hinge on it that when opened exposes a usb connector so
it's completely self contained- no card reader necessary. Any computer with
a usb port will do. You can "drag and drop" your Quicken backup files to it
using Explorer- no third party software needed. And at 1 GB memory, you can
probably store a full year's worth of saved Quicken files, at the end of the
year transfer the entire content to a CD, and start over.

Another option would be to use a CDRW and Nero's InCD. Once the disk is
formatted, you can drag and drop files to it without having to use
SmartStart or Burning ROM.

Personally, for Quicken, I backup to a 2nd harddrive each time I close the
program, and then copy the backup to the SD card after I reconcile any
account statement.

Good Luck,
Fitz

Until quicken data files exceed the size of the floppy media capacity.

My method: Run quicken for my non internet access required accounts on a
standalone PC. Little chance of virus affliction as well. Backup to a USB
stick.
Some other choices are packet writing software like INCD on rewritable
CD/DVD, external hard drive, alternate location on the C: or other onboard
letter drive. Or any other media that is normally written to for saving the
same data over and over again. Writing a Cd in ISO/Joliet format with an
open session is not one of these.

Go to Quicken's website. They have specific instructions for backing up
Quicken to CD. There can be problems if in Quicken you don't have the
correct options set. It depends on if you use XP's built in burning software
or if you use third party software. So, check out the information at the
site and I am sure it will take care of your problem.

When using XP writing software to write the CD it only writes to the buffer,
not to the disk. Ejecting at this point does not write it to the disk as the
impression of closing the disk gives you. I don't use Nero but easy media
creator works fine for me.
