I get an error message:

**
"An extension failed to initialize. Can't
open file: extend.dat. The file may not
exist, you maynot have permission to open it,
or it may be open in another program. "
**

It was all working OK before and now it
doesn't.
Please help, Frank

Thanks I tried this but no luck.
Are there any settings in Outlook or outlook
express to force the fax wizard to open the
appropriate folder in the address book? All
the data is there but the fax wizard can't
access it.
Regards, Frank

Rename extend.dat and run Detect and Repair
for Outlook.

Yes, but you have an Outlook problem, not a Fax problem.
What happens when you open Outlook itself? What add-ins are you running?

I fixed it by going to "Internet options" and
making Outlook Express the default Contacts
program.

I had done this before but somehow the
settings jumped back to the Windows default.

It works OK now though.

Regards.

That means you had Outlook installed but were not using it for anything.
Not sure why you would do that, but it would have been nice for you were
using Outlook Express even though you installed Outlook. We can't read minds
and trying to do so is a waste of time.

I suppose I should uninstall Outlook because
I never need it.
Will this cause problems with other MS Office
products?

It depends on what else you do. You might want to keep it around just for
integration with Word, although if you do mail merges you'll need to reset
Outlook as your default mail program to do so.
