Trojan using the svchost process

I've run a combination of Spyware detectors which have
successfully removed the few problem objects I've had on
my machine. However Spyware Doctor (after detection,
quarantine and reboot) keeps flagging up (as a serious
threat) a Trojan that has an unhealthy interest
in 'svchost.exe'.

All XP updates have been applied so would my best bet be
Ewido?

Grateful for any enlightenment available.

Hi Terry

What antivirus program are you using, updated ?

Ewido is a great trojan scanner so try it !

Also remove all temporarily junk with CCleaner, www.ccleaner.com

It´s also important to scan in safe mode, press F8 during reboot/start.
Choose full scans, no "quick scans", if you removed all your temp files
it is no problem with never ending long scans.

TrendMicros online scanner can also be recommended, note that you have
scanners for both virus and spyware.

Hi Plun

Just thought I'd bring the story up to date.

To respond to your questions.

- AVG Free with latest definitions.
- Used Ewido against the 'Trojan' called Trojan.Proxy.GN
which was originally picked up by Spyware Doctor. Ewido
(online) was very good and picked up some debris (low level
stuff)but couldn't see a trojan.

I became a bit sceptical however, once I'd trawled the
forums of the British PC magazines as there were a
disproportionate number of the same report re: this
'trojan' and each involved an earlier version of Spyware
Doctor. One victim reformatted their hard drive and found
even THAT didn't work. They then upgraded the version of
the application and the problem disappeared.

The forums seem to think it's probably a false report. I've
installed latest versions of Ad aware, Search and Destroy
and Zonealarm (latest Spyware definitions) and can report
no other problems.

However to save another panic I'm going to give my PC an
oil change and start afresh - its due a bit of attention!

All the best.
