By securing your OS, using more secure internet apps and using your
head.

Thank you so much for that Art, was really helpful.
Now I have upto date AVG, grisoft firewall, Spybot, Adaware etc.
I dont know where or how I got this virus, that is soon to be immaterial as
I will be coming of the net permanatly shortly anyway.
All I asked was what is the backdoor.svc.a virus and how do I get rid of it.
Thats all

You claimed that AVG "healed" it, no? Isn't that "getting rid of it"?
To permanently rid yourself of malicious code infestations you need to
do a lot more than merely use software "protection" as you've proven
by your personal experience. But don't want to hear that do you? That
would require doing some work and learning.

Without finding any descriptions of the malware, you can use general
Trojan removal methods. You can post a log file produced by
Trojan_Finder here if you need help. Links to useful uitilities are at
my web site. You could also run other av such as Antidote and Sysclean
to see what they find.
