Im running a scan with MS AntiSpyware. And as of now this
one file "Trojan.Startup.NameShifter.wingu" has found
over 218000 signatures an continues to rise. I'm A
college student and I don't have the time to let this
thing continue to run all day is there any other way I
can remove this myself?

Hi

Download CCleaner for temporarily junk removal.
www.ccleaner.com

It´s difficult to do it manual, restart in safe mode,
just press F8 just before Windows flagscreen appears

Start MSAS and change scan options to "full scan".

Restart.

I want 2 thank you for the CCCleaner it did remove a lot
of junk but still the Nameshifter still remains. Again
thank you for your help.

What is the source of your statement that Counterspy has "much more
removals"?

I know they have stated that they are expanding upon the Microsoft supplied
definitions, but I haven't seen any reviewer that shows them removing more
or better.

Hi Bill

Discussion again, simple math and perhaps logic ;)

Sunbelt/Counterspy have all MSAS defs until 2006 and
after reading Counterspys FAQ and used it myself for a testperiod
after the MS/Claria disaster it is clear for me that it must
be more definitions within Counterspy.

Counterspy don´t share their own defs with MS so it must be
more within Counterspy.

Otherwise it is really strange if they remove defs from MS.

Well, they could remove some false positives and some overly-simplistic
detections ("gambling" folder in favorites, for example) <g>

Since Microsoft doesn't publish anything, I think I'll wait until both
products (Sunbelt's beta, and Microsoft Antispyware) are released before I
make any judgements--but I'm not expecting Microsoft to do badly in any
comparisons.

Hi Bill

MSAS is really good and it will be free, maybe it is worth to
pay $20 to Sunbelt for Counterspy but I wait and see.

It also goes a little up and down in quality and we haven´t seen yet
what level MSAS team can manage in long terms or what MS bosses decide.
