I am currently using AVG Anti virus and it has picked up the following
Trojan in C:Recycler which I believe is the folder where the backups for
System Restore are kept. After turning off System Restore and Running AVG to
get rid of it which is what Ive read somewhere is the only way to get rid of
these viruses that are still in the system restore files, I still have the
above Trojan. The AVG Test result always comes up with Viruses Found 1,
Viruses Removed by healing 0, Files moved to virus vault 0, Viruses still on
the drive 1

Does this mean the trojan is still running and effective and if so does
anybody know the best way to get rid of?

Everytime Ive turned off system restore it says all files will be deleted
but it doesnt look like this is happening if the recycler folder is these
files that is!

Depending on your system, I'm assuming XP, c:\recycler is not a valid
folder, & I'm guessing that AVG can not get rid of the file. Try trend
housecall at this link http://www.trendmicro.com/en/home/us/personal.htm

If they were in the restore folder it'd be something like c:\windows
\system32\restore

The valid recycler bin is c:\recycled

But since it created it's own folder, & is in the registry to auto start
up, you won't just be able to delete the c:\recycler, unless that was a
typo you made. In that case empty your recycle bin & then turn off your
restore points & then back on & then scan with avg, trend housecall &
others.

Once you get it off, you will then have to figure how it got on, p2p,
open vulnerable ports, un-patched &/or un updated Microsoft applications

I think C:\_restore for ME

and

C:\System Volume Information\_restore for XP

Assuming the C of course.

Did you already empty the *trashbin*?

No, that would be the "_restore" folder. The recycle bin is
the place where some things go when you *think* you have
deleted them.

Hmmm, that *does* sound like "_restore" when I say it that
way.;o)

Empty the recycle bin.

The recycle bin and the restore feature are almost totally different
things (with some similarities with regard to things that you thought
you got rid of).

Its ok sorted now ta.
