Microsoft has a web page discussing this virus, but it's unfathomable.
This is the first virus my computers got in about 10 years of
computing. I have Norton AV 2003 updated constantly. Where would I
find the patch for WinME?

Thank you,

Based on the assumption you are referring to this:

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS03-011.asp

Then the fix for the Microsoft Virtual Machine is on the Windows Update site
and has been for some time. On that basis, it has probably already been
applied if you have been using that site on a regular basis.

My guess is, your AV has spotted the file, which it has blocked from being
executed, and is referring to this as the identified malware.

If you are as "updated constantly" with NAV, then it sounds like this is the
case, and, if you have been equally studious with Windows Update, then you
are probably not vulnerabile to the Exploit anyway...

Basically, it _sounds_ like your AV is working :)

You may also like to check out the user notice for MS03-011...

be more fathomable.

I'm reasonably sure that your excellent record is still intact because
it is not a virus (it is a detection of exploit code) and you probably
were being alerted only to its existence on your disk and not to an
active instance of this exploit.

You can check your Java VM build number to determine if you
were even vulnerable to this exploit trojan.

From a fathomable Microsoft website:

"All builds of the Microsoft VM up to and including build 5.0.3809
are affected...".

....so, if you have a more recent build you are not affected.
