Just remember that no soft can elimiate all threaths.
Combine it with some good adware scanners like Ad-Aware & Spybot (use
both 'cos they are rather suplementary) and a damn good daily update
antivirus (www.pandasoftware.com or www.symmantec.com) and an extra
immunizer (also included in spybot) like spywareblaster.
Oh yea... i suppose that you allready have a firewall for basic
protection. Included in panda platinum & available in norton.
If not yet... get a free firewall.

CWShredder
These last three are all excellent and are all free. Don't use just one,
but use all of them.
If you have persisting problems after using these, there's a program called
HighjackThis that will scan your computer and you send the results into a
spyware board and someone will review the findings for you. Again, it's
free.
