I'm capturing some old VHS tapes and converting them to DVD, and I need
something simple that'll trim a few seconds off the end of one of the files
before I convert it. Does such a creature exist?

How are you converting them? I use TMPGEnc to convert my captured
AVIs to MPG, and TMPGEnc lets you set in/out points and cut things
out, anywhere in the capture.

I'm using DivxToDVD (freeware) to convert. It does a fantastic job. I need
to take about 3 seconds, maybe less, off the end of this capturel.

Convert what to what?
any version of TMPGenc will trim MPEG-1.
TMPGenc 12a will trim MPEG-2 too.
