Hi all! PPT 2002XP -WinME

I have a slide project that was working fine, and then suddenly, when I
opened the project this morning, the trigger animations on some objects are
no longer working. I have gone back and removed the effects, closed the
file, and then re-added the trigger effects, but, they still just sit there
and look at me, like 'and.....?

Now, I had to do a Windows ME reinstall a couple of days ago to try and
resolve an Internet problem, and today is the first time I have accessed
this file since.

I am not getting any error messages of any kind. I have done the Detect and
Repair and the problem still is there. If I got an error message, it would
be easier to know where to troubleshoot.

I would appreciate any suggestions on where I might be able to find out more
on this issue.

Hi, Jan,

I can't think what in the world would be causing something like this.

Mmmm, did you delete the item which you'd click to trigger the action?

Maybe you inadvertently set the trigger to something else on the slide?

Oh, maybe you need to reupdate your video drivers and reset hardware
acceleration settings after the ME reinstall?

Jan,
Do the triggers work if recreated on a fresh presentation? Could you zip and
send me a single slide from the errant presentation in which this issue is
present? It's Shyam @ MVPs.Org (remove spaces)/

Hi Echo!

"> Hi, Jan,

No, I did not delete anything from the last time I worked with the slide.
All worked fine then. But, that was before I had to do the ME reinstall.
Maybe you inadvertently set the trigger to something else on the slide?

I'll recheck on this. But, they just didn't work when I was trying to add
the text boxes for the names and test them.

acceleration settings after the ME reinstall?

That might be, it has been so long since the last time I did that I didn't
think about redoing all this after the reinstall. I guess it would have
undone any changes. I'll check this out and let you know.

Thanks, Echo.

Hi Shyam!

Yes, the triggers work if I create a new slide. I did check this to see if
it was a problem with the triggers, or just the slide. Then I tried to redo
the triggers on the objects on the slide, but, still no good. I have had
some issues with various programs since upgrading to 2002 XP.

I'll zip one of the slides and send it along as you request.

Thank you for your time and help, I truly appreciate it.

Jan :)

Hi Shyam, it should be on it's way. If you don't get it in a bit let me know
and I'll try again.

Hi Echo!

I have reupdated the video driver and checked the hardware acceleration
settings. I also made sure the Security setting was not set to High.

I have copied a couple of the objects to a new slide, and made sure all the
animation and effects were removed. Then I applied new, different triggers.
Still nothing.

But, if I create a new object, the same triggers will work. It would seem to
be something with the objects for some reason. But, not knowing that much
about 2002 XP, I don't know. The original slides were working before the
reinstall. This is the only project I have done thus far in 2002 XP with any
of this kind of settings. Maybe I need to do a uninstall and reinstall of
2002 XP. But, thought I'd check all areas before I do that. It is just
such a pain.

Thanks for your help.

Jan :)

Very cool. Shyam has said he uses that round tripping through HTML thing
quite often to clear the cobwebs out of presentation files. I dunno what
it does exactly, but it works on a lot of these things! Really glad to
hear it worked here, too, because I was really scratchin' my head on
this one. :-)

Hi all -

With the help of Shyam offgroup, the problem has, at this point, been
resolved, after following his instructions below;
Save the original presentation as HTML and then open this exported
presentation back in PPT and save it under a different name. Try if you can
create the triggers in this presentation.

Regards
Shyam

He was also very kind enough to explain how/why this feature worked as
follows;
Round tripping. You can save a presentation as HTML and bring the HTML back
in PowerPoint. PowerPoint reads the HTML and recreates the presentation.
Even though the original and the this new presentation is identical in terms
of content since the presentation was recreated from scratch, it is a
cleaner presentation and discards stuff which could be causing the issue in
the original presentation.

I am now able to recreate triggers in the existing slide(s). While not sure
what caused the problem to happen, I at least now have a cure, thanks to
Shyam. ;-))

Best regards,
Jan :)

Hi Echo!

I always try to do all the things that I have learned, and troubleshoot as
best I can, but, XP is still a bit beyond me, so when the things that I have
in my resource reference library, and those embedded like the Rosetta Stone
in my head don't work, I am not sure were to go from there (prob'ly the
lines with the 'lil Tiggers in 'em). There are most likely some other things
that I should have done, but, just not sure which ones.

I am truly grateful that Shyam was kind enough to share this information. I
now have one more troubleshooting tool in my arsenal ;-)

Boy..I am really looking forward to Boot Camp! Right now I'm sorta like
Santa, on his way to the toy factory...checking his toys list, and checking
it twice. <bg>

Jan :)
