I need to know how to download thjios control so that I can refresh my

Can you point us to the practice tutorial you tried? Generally, when you're
prompted for an ActiveX control, there's a yellow bar near the top of
Internet Explorer that you need to click in order to let the ActiveX control
run.

If you're trying to download a file, it could be that the file is designed
for PowerPoint 2007. You may be experiencing difficulties because you're
using PPT 2003, though. There's nothing wrong with 2003, it's just that many
of the tutorials and downloads aren't designed to work with 2003. That's why
I asked for a link to a specific file you're having issues with....

Thank you for your reply Steve.
I think it said microsoft office templates and media control. Is that an
activex?
I tried to download it but was unable to do so.
I hope I don't need the office disks to do it as I didn't get them with the
pc.
What do I do when I'm doing something on pc and a message comes up telling
me I need to download some program or other? Usually I just ignore it. But
often they are from yahoo or microsoft. Should I download these?

Hi Steve
This is the message when trying to download 2003 powerpoint training and I
followed the instructions and got nowhere. Office control and media control
are enabled but the exact wording 'Microsoft Office Template and Media
Control' is not in the list.

An ActiveX control could not be installed
The practice file could not be downloaded because the Office Online ActiveX
control could not be installed on your computer.

ActiveX controls are small programs that provide additional features for Web
pages. The Office Online ActiveX control is needed to automatically download
and open the file for this practice session.

To solve this problem, try one or more of the following:
Make sure you have administrative rights

To download and install the ActiveX control, you must have administrative
rights on the computer that you are using. If you're not sure whether you
have administrative rights on your computer, contact your system
administrator. If you are unsure who your system administrator is, talk to
the person who set up your computer.
Add Microsoft Office Online to your list of trusted sites

When you add Microsoft Office Online to your list of trusted sites, you
configure your browser to download and run ActiveX controls and other files
automatically from our Web site.

Adding a Web site as a trusted site can have security implications. For more
information, you can read about URL Security Zones.

To add the Microsoft Office Online Web site to your list of trusted sites:

On the Tools menu in Internet Explorer, click Internet Options, and then
click the Security tab.
Click the Trusted Sites icon, and then click Sites.
Clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone
check box.
In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type http://office.microsoft.com,
and then click Add.
Click OK twice.
Click this link to reinstall the ActiveX control: Download the {0} for
Office Online

Unblock the ActiveX control

If you are running Microsoft Windows® XP with Service Pack 2, it is possible
that you disabled the ActiveX control at one time. To enable the control:

In Internet Explorer, on the Tools menu, click Manage Add-ons.
Select Microsoft Office Template and Media Control in the list of controls.
If you do not see that control listed, click the arrow on the Show box at the
top of the Manage Add-ons dialog box, and then select Add-ons that have been
used by Internet Explorer. Then select Microsoft Office Template and Media
Control in the list of controls.
Under Settings, click Enable. You may see a message saying that you need to
restart Internet Explorer for the change to take effect.
Click OK, and then click OK again. "

Hi Steve
My 'user' a/c states I am the administrator. There is also another password
protected account called ' ASP.NET Machine A....'S.

I am on XP Professional Version 2002 Service Pack 3.

It is just an ordinary home pc.
