Has anybody else been getting the following error message when attempting to
update PC-cillin 14.56?

An error occured while connecting to the Internet. Check your Internet
connection and try again. (28)

I have searched and searched and searched and cannot find an answer that
works.

And yes, I know there are other AV programs! :) I just want to see what's
going on with this one.

Thanks!!

Did you uninstall the other version, first?
I just received an email from Trend about
the new version for Vista. I have not installed
it, yet. I'm done with Vista until RC1 comes out.
Although, I may install the new PC-cillin so that I
can provide some feedback.

Email:

Hi Michael!

We have just released a new build for PC-cillin™ Internet Security 14.56 for Windows Vista
Beta2. Please download it from this site:

https://www.trendbeta.com/index.php\?get=80

You need to uninstall the current build using PCCTool.exe. Please follow the procedure below:

1. Go to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\PCC14.55_VistaBeta2_02\Tools.
2. Double Click PCCTool.exe.
3. Select "Allow" for User Account Control window.
4. Select "[E] Uninstall " tab.
5. Select "4. Uninstall" > "Uninstall".
6. Select "Yes" for confirmation message.
7. Wait a few minutes.
8. Restart computer.

After the machine reboots, locate the installation package you downloaded and execute to
reinstall. Please provide feedback on the result. Thanks!

Hi

I have been running Trend Beta for Vista and reported this problem to them.
I had server issues with a partial download and then the error notice you
have. Next day everything was fine update worked. Last night I tried over and
over again with exactly the same error code as you have making no contact
with the beta servers for updates.

I reported this again and it seems it is their servers. Hopefully they can
work to improve the server upload download time for the betas as others have
reported this also. I haven't tried today but will be trying soon when I boot
the computer with Vista. The error report is due to the servers Trend side.

This morning I tried to update again PC-cillin and it worked, you're right it
was on there servers. However I am glad I read this because there is a new
build 14.56 for Windows Vista. So I downloaded it just like Michael said
followed his instructions and it works just fine.No problems.Thank you for
this information.

I tried the link today but didn't find the new file :( thanks I have found it
now and downloading ready to install on this PC soon.

Receiving same message - unable to get it to work. Reinstalled both Vista
(RC-1) and PC-cillin. Emailed Trend Micro for help.
TIA

Hi Folks!
I'm a new Vista user as of 9/1/06. I downloaded and installed the 14.56
version and have not had a successful update yet. It downloads about 75% of
the update and then gives me the error msg. #28 internet connection. Glad to
know that the problem is on their end. I'll keep trying.

I've been getting exactly the same trouble for 3 days. Reported to Trend who
have come back with all sorts of instructions telling me to click on things
that don't exist in their software or in Vista. I've begged (on my knees!)
Symantec to offer us something soon. This mess is putting me off TrenMicro
completely.

After reading everyone's mails I decided to swap PC-cillin's trial for AVG's
trial. Uninstalling PC-cillin crashed and froze the syetm so I had to reset.
Then I had to pick bits of PC-cillin out of the files and registry (it no
longer appeared in the programs listed in Control Panel). Then I installed
AVG AND updated its virus definitions without trouble EXCEPT that Vista
security center thinks I have TWO anti-virus definitions installed -
PC-cillin and AVG. I've tried an advanced search but can't find any mention
of PC-cillin anywhere. How do I convince Vista's Secutity center that
PC-cillin is gone man, gone, not here anymore! ?? Oh and the Security centre
seems to think AVG is turned OFF but AVG says its ON. Happy Days!

Perhaps you missed a Registry entry?

Trend had problems with their update servers. As of Sunday AM the update
servers are working again.
