Trend better than McAfee? Market Share?

I have been told to ditch McAfee Enterprise for Trend. Can anyone
direct me to some recent data on these systems?

Does anyone know where I can get market share numbers - for say...the
top 5 AV products?

I am working an issue with Trend right now. I have a virus sample that McAfee flags as the
"W32/Spybot.worm.gen.e" and that was around Oct 18th. Trend failed to flag it as anything.
I submitted a sample to Trend twice through October 29th. Still Trend failed to flag it.
My correspondance went unanswered. Yesterday I used my professional personna and I called
Trend ( we have a contract with Trend ) and I queried them about how long does it take to
get a submission identified. I did not get a good answer. I asked should it take almost 3
weeks, they said "No." I told them the situation and that since Pattern Files 2.204 (now
2.238) Trend has not flagged the infector. I was asked to resubmit it. I did, I got a
receipt and a case number but Trend still fails to flag the infector.

The following is a list of AV software and what they identified the infector as...

McAfee -
W32/Spybot.worm.gen.e
F-secure -
Backdoor.Win32.Hackarmy.w
Panda -
Bck/HackArmy.T
BitDefender -
Backdoor.Hackarmy.1.Gen
Symantec Nav 2005
backdoor hacarmy
CAI eTrust
Win32.Rawbot.BR trojan
Reliable Anti Virus (RAV)
Backdoor:Win32/Hackarmy
DialogueScience:
BackDoor.Hackamy

In addition, McAfee's Enterprise management is better than Trend's.

I am *very* disappointed in Trend :-(

After email discussions back-and-forth with Trend, they finally started catching the
infector in the 2.239.05 Controller Pattern Release. With the "Official Pattern Release
2.240, there are [572] new viruses detected by this new pattern file.

However, to go from 10/14 to 11/08 is too long and I am disappointed.

Dave :-)

Did you get a feel for what took them so long to come up with a
signature? They are usually pretty good with keeping up with the latest
threats.

No I don't but I have not closed the call yet.

I submitted the sample a couple of times via the web. Then thanx to Nick Fitzgerald, I sent
the sample to (e-mail address removed) using my professional email address. An email
address, from a "company" which is covered under contract. When I received NO reply, I then
called support using my professional persona. It still took almost a week to get the file
recognized. I found this exercise most enlightening. When I submit a sample to
McAfee/AVERT Webimmune I can expect an EXTRA.DAT within minutes to 24hrs. Never this long a
period I told the Trend POC this fact.
