Treating multiple contact folders as equal

I have three folders for contact addresses. In the Address Book dialog and
Tools>Options I've listed all three folders in the "When sending mail check
names...in the following order" box.

What this seems to do is only to go on to the second folder if it fails to
find any match in the first folder. What I *want* to do is to treat all
folders equally, so if I type "Bert" I get offered all possible "Bert"
matches in all three folders. Is there a way of doing this?

No. Outlook will stop searching other folders after it finds a match. That's
done for performance reasons. You need to re-examine why you needed separate
folders if you want all your Contacts searched.

Thanks - not the answer I wanted, but good to have an answer !

FWIW the reason is exactly the same as why I don't put all the word
documents I have into one folder - just easier to manage and find things.

It is, but that's also why Outlook provides Categories. That way you can use
just one folder and still organize it to your heart's content.
