When I first connect online, I receive an error message.
In the heading of the error box is this message:

trayctl.exe - unable to locate component

In the body of the error message box is this:

This application has failed to start because psystraylpyd
was not found. Re-installing the application may fix
this problem.

What does this mean and what do I need to do?

This is the closest thing I've found if this is not it
then check for spyware.

Trayclnt Trayclnt.exe

(Microsoft) System Tray icon for MSN subscribers which
gives users a quick way to connect to MSN. Microsoft
produce wonderful software sometimes, but when are they
ever going to get their act together with MSN ? From the
resources crusher LOADQM to the often hanging, not
responding, illegal operation culprit TRAYCLNT, MSN
beggars belief and frustrates too many users.

Recommendation :
Many users will at some stage or other experience
problems with TRAYCLNT. Sometimes re-installing MSN cures
the problem, at other times extracting the MAILCOM.DLL
file with the System File Checker or MSCONFIG also does
the trick. Our advice, however : if TRAYCLNT is giving
you problems, disable it with Startup Manager - you do
not actually need it.

Thanks for the info. How do I get to Startup Manager? I
did a search for it but nothing came up. Sorry to be
such an ignoramus about this, but I need help!!

Dave,

Thanks for your reply regarding my trayctl problem.

When I went into startup configure, there is no
trayctl.exe listed. However, I did find:

sgtray

the command is c:\program files.

I also found:

s3tray2

the command for that is s3tray.exe

Should I do anything about either of those?

Thanks.

Ellen

I don't know your system so I'd advise against deleting those files.
If you connect to MSN when you go online then you should really
reinstall the MSN software.
If you don't use MSN, delete it's program files.
BTW, are you sure you don't mean "trayclnt"?

I use Earthlink for email but Internet Explorer for the
web.
No, the message is trayctl. I checked it again after the
first post last night. If it is easier for you (I know
it is for me), you can email me at: (e-mail address removed)

I am not a spammer and will not bother you other than
this.

Thanks.

Ellen
