Wonderful! Exactly what I need. Thank you for pointing it out.

I'll second that! Great program. Anybody know of a similar program to
quickly hide/show my QuickLaunch icons? They strech half way across
the screen.

Tray Saver might be worth checking out :

I had the same problem, now I use RunIt for half of them.

I had a lot of programs in my Quick launch bar earlier.
Then I realized that it slowed down the computer every time I used the
task bar, because windows needs to load these icons from the quick launch
directory everytime.

I removed all the icons in the quick launch bar and since then I use
other methods of launching progs, like Runit, or the toolbar in my dual
pane file manager.

A freeware program called "the big red button" is cool, it allows
me to start/show/minimize my favorite programs from the
keyboard. I use the F1-F10 buttons for that. Very fast and efficient.

Windows 95/98/NT/2000/XP

Now I only need a piece of masking tape above the F1-F10 buttons to mark
each program I have set in The Big Red Button.

Or maybe I will put together a long row of nice icons in a paint program
and print it out and put it above the F1-F10 keys on my keyboard.

The Big Red Button shows a little help window for a few seconds when I
reboot, and that can be a little annoying, but it works really well for
its purpose.

I never use the F1-F10 keys for anything in any programs nowadays anyway,
so I can just as well use them to call up programs with them, but people
who use them must, of course, find other solutions.

Larry,

This may not be exactly what you had in mind, but I find it handy:

Right-click on the Taskbar and make sure that "Lock the Taskbar" is not
checked.
Grab the sizing handle on the left side of the Quick Launch Toolbar and
slide it as far to the right as you can.
This makes the Quick Launch Toolbar as small as possible and puts a
"double-arrow" button on the right end.
Right-click on the Quick Launch Toolbar and select "Show Title". You can
now lock the Taskbar again, if desired.

You now have a pretty small toolbar showing only the title.
Just click on the double-arrows to see a menu of all of your Quick Launch
icons.

Regards,
Eric

I get round this problem by putting folders (containing shortcuts to the
programs) in the Quick Launch section instead of icons. One folder for text
related icons, one for system utilities, one for music related programs, etc
etc. It adds an extra click to open the folder, but programs which are used
most frequently can go in the Start Menu. Folders can be created by creating
a blank folder on the desktop, adding a suitable icon, and dragging it to
the Quick Launch bar.

For the Quick Launch bar?

He didn't ask about his bar. He asked about his quick launch icons.
Many of those could be put in his tray area, and if wanted, made
invisible. Thereby taking up no space at the bottom of his window
unless required.

Also, if he wants to keep everything in his quick launch bar then
moving it to the RHS of his desktop will stop them stretching across
his screen.

On a related topic, I also find Places Bar Editor very handy:
