Hi

Don't know if anyone else experiences this, but I
keep "losing" the icon in my tray. Sometimes it's there
but mostly it isn't. Note that the application process
seems to be running ok.

Spyware Definition Version: 5693 (26/02/2005 12:20:24)
Win XP Pro - SP2 & all critical updates
Dell Precision 360, 512MB RAM, 3.2 GHz

You sure its not Windows XP Autohide feature in the system tray thats
causing that? Go Taskbar Properties > Notification Area > Customize, >
select Microsoft AntiSpyware > in behavior choose Always show.

Definitely not that - I never hide the icons.

No probs with any other icons - they are all as they
should be. I'm an IT pro so I have a reasonable grasp of
Win XP and its processes. Just can't find why its not
always showing.

Its a possible bug, I also can bet you are running the latest build .509. MS
AntiSpyware functionality varies on a number of systems I have noticed, you
just have to hope its fixed by beta 2. Or in the mean time try an
uninstall/reinstall procedure.

It has occurred to me as well today. Right now there is
no tray icon and manually enabling it in a program I use
(www.mlin.net - Startup Control Panel) it still doesn't
show in the tray area. It works fine if I open it
manually though. I think this is the only time it has
happened. I haven't restarted the computer yet (as it is
busy doing something important to me).

Possible problem is, start up agents associated with Microsoft AntiSpyware
have shut down, possibly because you are manually shutting down AntiSpyware
from the System tray before you shutdown Windows. I would suggest,
uninstalling and reinstall AntiSpyware.

With the most recent update of MSAS (version 5791), when I reboot my
computer, the MSAS icon does not appear in the tray, even after I start MSAS
manually. I can fix this by going to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs,
MSAS, change, and asking it to 'update' MSAS. However, the next time I
reboot, the icon again disappears.

Hello Tobe,

try this:

Goto: Start/Control Panel/Add-Remove programs/MSAS
then click on support info!!!
Then click on repair!

If that wont work then it is really a XP problem,

I give a workaround for all th missing things in the systray:
Go to:
C:\Windows\system32\
and look for systray.exe, right click on it and make a shortcut
from it, then move the shortcut to the common startup folder:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\StartMenu\Programs\Startup\

Restart the computer.
