I bought my daughter a used Thinkpad 600e. Her boyfriend put in a startup
password. Naturally they broke up and now we cant boot her laptop. what is
the workaround or do we have to buy a new hard drive. Powerup& F1 do
nothing.

Varys with exactly which password has been set.

If its on the drive itself, thats very secure and
there isnt anyway for you to get around it.

There are some operations that will remove it, for a price.
