Have a Samsung 2010 laser printer. Was wondering if any special
precautions need be taken when Junior takes it off to college next
month. Should we remove the toner cartridge for transport? Any danger of
spillage if we don't?

Well toner is mildly carcinogenic, and if it gets on the
optics, bye bye printer.
So I'd remove the cartridge, put it into a hole free, thick
plastic bag, and securely tape it, leaving no holes for any loose
toner to escape.
It any gets out in transit, any clothes, digi cameras, or
things it comes in contact with could also be ruined.
Not that inkjets are much easier, liquid ink from an
upside down printer being shaken in transit is a bit
messy, can ruin clothes, and once removed chances
printer will lose its ink, get an airlock, and the head go south.
