Good morning,

I am trying to use the TRANSPOSE(matrix) function in an Excel97
worksheet. I am using the Dutch language version.

What I need to do is to transpose a row vector into a column vector. It
just won't work even if I follow literally the 3-cell example given in
the online help.

The selection of the input and output cell range is correct. I kind of
understand that the calculation succeeds and that the result is a
column {1\2\3}.

I just seem onable to smear the result over three cells and I just get
the first element of the list in each cell of the output selection.

Anyone can help me? Thank in advance. I enclose a very small
spreadsheet which shows the "enigma".

Have a nice day,

Thankfully the attachment didn't make it through (They are a no no in a text only newsgroup), but
from the sound of your note, you are not selecting the 3 cell range to start with before entering
your formula, and then array entering it with CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER, eg:-

With your data in say A1:A3, select C1:E1, and then with those cells still selected, in the
formula bar type =TRANSPOSE(A1:A3) and then hit CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER.

Thanks a lot for helping me with my transpose enigma.

This possibility of CTRL-SHIFT-ENTER was unknown to me. It will sound
naive to you probably.

But anyhow I am very grateful ...

Have a nice day.

No problem, and don't feel bad about it - Probably 90+% of users have never heard of it. Arrays
can be a powerful tool, and if it helps then you may want to take a look at Chip's introduction to
arrays at the following link:-
