Transparent icon text background

When my wife and I were configuring our new Dell, we
right-clicked on the desktop, then chose Properties, the
Desktop tab, then chose a color. That color now shows up
as the background that each icon's text sits on. Since we
use photographs for our backgrounds, we'd prefer to go
back to the transparent background that the text used to
sit on. I can find no way to do this, nor could Dell
support. I cannot to a System Restore, because it was not
turned on until AFTER I made this change.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance. Would prefer e-mailed
replies, I'm not sure I can find my way to this board
again.

Hi Terry,
Two checkpoints to consider:

1) Right click on desktop and point to arrange icons by, uncheck "Lock web
items on desktop"

2) Right click on My Computer and select properties. Flip to the advanced
tab and clickon settings under Performance. Scroll down the list of visual
effects and check "Use drop shadows..."

Not a good idea to post your real email address in a newsgroup since
it will be picked up by spam-mail harvesting programs. And, no, I'm
sure you'll find your way back here.

1.. Open System in Control Panel.
2.. On the Advanced tab, under Performance, click Settings.
3.. On the Visual Effects tab, click Custom.
4.. Select the check box for those items you want to turn on. Clear the check box for the items you want to turn off.
Note

a.. To open System, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
