Transparent GIF

You use a transparent (invisible) 1x1px gif to hold table cells, columns, whatever open to the size you want.

But of course, you specify the size that you want the cell to be by changing
the width and height in the <img> tag, e.g. width="100 heïght="100" (even
though the original gif is only 1px*1px)
