Is there any way I can bring two cross hairs onto the same slide simultaneously from different corners so that they intersect?
 
Depends on the version of PowerPoint your using.

I'm assuming you mean as an animation. Which version of PPT?
 
Sorry, no. In Powerpoint 2000, you are not able to natively run 2
animations at the same time. It could be done if you want to get into VBA
coding, but that would be a lot of trouble for just this one effect.

Your best bet would be to upgrade to PowerPoint 2002 (aka PowerPoint XP)
which allows motion paths, and simultanious animations. It is an easy thing
with 2002.
