Hello - i have a 5 page slide presenation with over 100 pictures using
automatic transitions. All transitions are working correctly, except for an
8 second delay between slide 3 and 4. I have no idea why this delay is
occuring.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Sorry, email defeats the purpose of a newsgroup, which is that all may
benefit from the exchange.

Does your picture on slide 3 have an animation applied to it?

Is the picture on slide 4 extremely large (file-size-wise)?

Sorry - Echo didn't think i would be able to access this from work - yes the
slide ends with two pictures both with animation and slide 4 has a large
photo (251kb).

Thanks,

Well, is the animation on slide 3 longer than 3-4 seconds? That could cause
a delay.

If you compress the picture on slide 4, does that resolve the issue? If
PPT's struggling to display it, that could cause a delay. Sometimes
uncompressing large JPGs can cause that.

Compress Pix tool is on the Picture toolbar in PPT 2003. It's on the Picture
Tools tab of the ribbon in 2007. Compress it to 96 dpi/ppi (for email, I
think it says). Then save.

The animation is finished 3 seconds prior to the time I have set to
automatically advance the slide. I also compressed the file with no luck.

Thanks

I just noticed you said 5 slides with 100 pictures. Does slide 4 have 20
pictures on it?

PPT 2007 defaults to 200 ppi for its compression. That won't help here. Did
you specify the 96 ppi option when compressing?

Okay, in that case, I'd try divvying up slide 4 into separate slides. If
that takes care of the delay, then you know it's an issue with PPT trying to
get ready to display 20 images.

What file type are the images? You might have better luck with PNG as
opposed to JPG. PPT has to uncompress the JPGs to display them, and it seems
to have an easier time with PNG.

Wait. If you changed the resolution in something like Photoshop but didn't
resample, then it doesn't matter -- it's the same number of pixels (too
many), and the jpg file size is still large.

Try using PPT's compression as I suggested. Do it on a copy of the file.
