Transition Delays after transcoding to MPEG2

When I create a move with pictures (MPEG) and clips (MPEG2) and add
transitions between them, everything works fine in preview mode and after the
WMV has been rendered. Of course, my DVD programs transcode the WMV into
MPEG2 to put on a DVD (primarily NERO). After transcoding the movie file
will often pause right when a transition starts for a bit before moving onto
the next clip / picture. This results in a transition that stutters. This
seems to be a problem with transcoding in general, as I've tried several
other WMV to MPEG2 transcoders as well and the resulting MPEG does the same
thing.

Is there something can be done to avoid this? Clean transitions on the DVD
would be nice.... The WMV is rendered as high quality NTSC and the
transcoders are going to standard NSTC MPEG2.

I've experienced this as well when using high quality WMV with all the
different DVD authoring programs I have (and that's quite a few).
I recommend that instead of saving your movie to high quality WMV you save
it to DV-AVI.
This is higher quality and will result in smoother transitions and, for
whatever reason, also ends up being a faster render time to MPEG2 by Nero.

Are you using MPEG/MPEG2 files as your source files in Windows Movie
maker. This is not a good idea as WMM is not compatible with the MPEG
format of files. Convert these to uncompressed AVI or WMV for editing
using VirtualDubMod.
