I am building my own custm computer, and I need to get an OS for it. I have a
Dell CD and Key, can I put that key and CD combo on the new computer, and it
will work?

Sorry, a Dell OEM version of Windows XP cannot be
transferred nor installed on a different computer. Its
license is directly tied to a Dell motherboard.

Hopefully not. Go buy a legitimate license.

Hi,

There's no way. You must buy an original Microsoft Windows XP.

Technically NO; it'll violate your license provisions.

Realistically, not likely; it's been customized for the Dell and will expect
to see the Dell hardware, most likely. Even if you do get it to work,
you're likely to have a nightmarish time getting it activated, if it'll even
activate.

Since it's a Dell, you might ask them whether there are any possibilities;
they'll know the details.

You're almost sure to have to go out and buy a copy of XP.

I would say Dell provide a "restore" disk which restores only a Dell system
to the factory settings/software which would be tied to the Dell original
hardware, not a full Windows XP installation CD, so it probably won't work.

Another thing, if it is an OEM Windows O/S CD, then Microsoft don't support
it, Dell support would, but might question why you want to install the OEM
Windows on a non-DELL machine.
