Transferring the DNS Role

I have a 2000 Server running AD and is handling the DNS.
The machine is days away from completely dying, and I was
wondering how I could transfer the role of Primary DNS to
another server. I tried loading DNS services on another
AD Server and making the old Primary a Secondary, but when
I shutdown the Secondary all of my client PC's have
problems logging on. It's kind of like the Primary DNS
isn't taking on all of the roles of a DNS. Any help would
be greatly appreciated.

Thanks ... Johnny

Did you point your clients to the new DNS server? If they are pointed to the
DNS server you took offline, they will have problems.

We pointed the clients to the new primary DNS server, but
upon reboot they hung where the Windows 2000 screen says
"Applying Network Settings". Once we booted up the
secondary DNS server and rebooted the clients, everything
was fine.

on the client run ipconfig /flushdns followed by ipconfig /registerDNS. Then
test.

I did the flush & register before, but for some reason the
clients still hang when the Secondary DNS is shutdown and
the Primary DNS is up and running. We were thinking about
maybe unjoining and rejoining the client computers to the
domain. Any ideas?
