transferring from excel to text

I am trying to take a couple of columns from an excel spreadsheet to a plain
text format. I can not copy and paste because it takes the cells and formats
it so the words and numbers are no all over the page. HELP PLEASE???

File > save as > select Formatted text in the save as drop down
