Transferring Files from ME to XP

Just got a new system with Xp. I backedup my old system
on to several cds as data files (Excel, Word, Music and
Photos).

My new system with XP will not recognize anything on
these disks. When I insert them into the cd drive the
computer thinks they are blank or asks me to insert a
disk when in fact it is already in the slot.

I tried to use the transfer wizard in Xp but it does not
recognize any of my CD drives, only diskette drive or
cable to cable transfer. My old system's has be
reformatted for selling zero data is left on my old
system.

Does anyone know how to access these cds where I backed
up my system files that were important (some very
important).

Thanks

Did you finalize the CDs when you burned them?

That's only relevant if the OP didn't finalize the CDs. If he finalized
them, they should be capable of being read in any CDRW drive.

Will the new system read other CD's? can these CD's be read on another PC?

Yes these cds can be read in my old computer under Win ME
And my new computer runs all cds/dvds fine except for
these...

Do you have the same CDRW software on your XP machine?

Not if they were put onto CDRW disks (ather than CDR), and if the XP
system does not have packet writing CDRW software installed.

To be honest, I'm not sure. I did whatever the system
prompted me to do. the program I used was adaptec, CD
creator.

Should I hook my old system back up and look for some
particular feature that I need to apply to allow them to
be read in any drive? I believe I picked the feature
that said create a data CD accessible by any letter drive.

Thanks!

OK in that case, first thing is to copy them back onto your ME system as a
precaution!

Next, try a different way to burn them, there are several options with
adaptec, experiment until you find one that works, but a good idea to
'clsoe' the disk as others have hinted. Also, try a different brand of CD.

Can you remove the HDD from your old system and install it as a slave in the
new? That would solve everything at a stroke!

What program did you use to burn the CDs with? If you use Direct CD or
IN CD 'packet writing' the compatibility to XP is not good, (it will
read some, but never write to them) and you would need a compatible
version of the program concerned. If you wrote an ISO 'session' using
Easy CD or Nero say, then it will be a compatibility problem between the
old burner, the new reader and the specific make of disk you used. Try
sample of other makes of disk
