Transferring data from 5" Floppy

Help!! I'm using very old acoustical testing equipment and need to
transfer data saved on a 5" floppy to more modern media. How do I do
this? I haven't been able to find the right resources.

Just get a 5" floppy drive and connect it to the floppy ribbon cable.
You may need a new floppy ribbon cable.

You get a 5.25" floppy drive and connect it to a modern computer
with a traditional floppy cable (which has the right connector
for the 5.25" floppy). The old floppy drives still work with
today's mainboard-integrated controllers in most cases. (Some
cheap mainboards do not have the strong drivers needed for
the WR and RD lines, but most do.)

AFAIK Windows XP does not support the old format anymore though,
but you can use, e.g., a Linux system like Knoppix (singleCD
linux, works without installation) to transfer the data.
