I'm having trouble with getting the .pst file where it belongs. Here is the
problem I'm having. I bought a new PC and loaded Office 2003 on it. I did
an "Export" of the .pst file to a thumb drive and I thought I had imported it
to the new PC, but now, every time I start office, I have to have that thumb
drive in for outlook to open. Can someone help getting this file in the
right directory and have Outlook point to it without the thumb drive.

I have already tried to "Repair" and "Uninstall/Install" Outlook from the
Office disk. It keeps pointing to the thumb drive.

Posted here every day you will see our admonitions never to use export and
import to transfer Outlook data. This is why. You already had an Outlook
data file. There was no reason to create another.
Instead, you copy your Outlook data file, place it on your hard drive, then
open it in Outlook.
Create a new Outlook profile and do the above.

Thanks. Where do I copy the original data file form and to?

From your old PC (the one from which you did your export), or from your most
recent backup of that file. You do backup your data, right?
Exporting a PST file to another drive will always lose data and may corrupt
the PST file.

I haven't backed up for a couple of days, so from the old system. I'm going
to format the hard drive on my old system as soon as I get this moved over.
I can back it up as well before moving though. What would you recommend?

I recommend what I already told you: copy your PST file from that hard drive
before you reformat it.

Maybe I missed something. I went to the location on the old system, and
copied to the same path on the new system. When I launch Outlook it still
goes to the f: drive.

You need to tell Outlook where the new pst file is. And if you overwrote the
existing pst file by copying your old one to the same location then you will
very probably have corrupted your Outlook profile.
Copy the pst file to somewhere OTHER then the default location, and add it
to your Mail profile in Control Panel-Mail. Then you can set it as the
default delivery location, after which Outlook will open it automatically.

Yes. You missed something. Read my first post:
