My kids have a number of AVI and MPEG files created
several years ago. They (used to) play fine on their
Windows 98 machine with the then level of Media Player.
However, since upgrading their box to Windows 2000, we get
the dreaded "no suitable decompressor could be found"
error 80040200 message.
I have no idea how to discover what codec I am missing
(which makes it hard to contact someone to obtain it).
But it occurs to me that this works fine on the Win98
system (still around).
Question: Is it possible to move the codecs from the W98
system to the W2k one and thus enable me to open the video
files and possible re-encode them anew?
Where are such files kept (on both systems)?
Many thanks in advance for all replies
