Hello,

We just bought a new server and I would like to transfer
all my user and group accounts plus mailboxes in Exchange
2000 from the old server to the new server.

Both servers are running Microsoft SBS 2000 with Exchange
2000. I only have one DC and once I get the accounts
over the new server will become the DC. The new server
isn't on the network because the settings will conflict
with the current server.

Can anyone help me and tell me if this can be done or how
to do it? I could always go and re-enter in all the
accounts and groups, but don't know some of the passwords
etc. Thank you in advance!!

if I were you I would take the new server and install the OS and then do a
system state restore and restore the AD to the server. after this is
successful then power down the old server and hook the new one to the
network. just an idea but it might work.

What settings on the new DC would be conflicting?
Get the new server on the domain with a new name, new IP,
then promote to a DC.
Make the new DC a GC
Sync and verify...only then do the following:
Transfer all FSMO roles to the new DC
Make sure you make the new DC schema role is writable
Sync and verify... (wait a day or so if needed)
Make any other changes - (i.e. if DC1 was primary DNS then
add secondary zones on DC2, then swap zone types after you
update from the master. Use NETSH to backup DHCP config,
if needed - you can load it later on the new DHCP server
if applicable.)
Verify replication (Sites & Services or REPLMON) and fsmo
holders (NETDOM QUERY FSMO)
Demote the original DC. Afterwards then remove the old
server from the network/domain.
If needed you can reuse the original IP address (but not
the name)

I have done this dozens of times.
