I made a search (*.jpg) in my pc (Winxp home, 80GB HD, RAM 512MB) to
find the number of pictures I have and found that I have stored more
than 11000 pictures over the two year period. Wanted to do some
house-keeping by keeping them in different folders.

Opened pictures in thumbnails in the Search Results window. Also opened
a newly created folder on the desktop and positioned the search window
and this folder so that I could move some selected pictures (in the
search window) to this folder. I failed. After a long waiting I get
----- not responding. However moving a single picture does take place
---but process of move seems very slow.

Is there any better method to transfer the pictures in bulk?

I suspect that many of the 11000 images are
part of your system files and installed program
files. Some could even be in your TIF folder and
recycle bin if you have not emptied them.

Wouldn't a large majority of the files you have
personally saved be in your My Documents /
My Pictures folders? Maybe they are the ones
you are looking for?

Anyway...try this...empty your TIF folder and
recycle bin. Close all programs that are running...
especially your virus scanner.

Do the search...when all the files are found....
select several files and go to...Edit / Copy
to folder...from the list, choose the folder you
created on the desktop...click...Copy.

The way I was doing was giving me does-not-respond. I followed your
method and that worked. Thanks for your instructions.

I have just tried it for a group of pictures and all the pics have not
been compartmentalized. In case I get some problem I shall again report
to the news group.

By the way I have no TIF folder nor my Recycle been contained anything
when I tried my way.

Yes some images would be part of system files, but majority of them are
my uploaded pictures to my web site (free ones) numbering thousands. The
fear of loosing them from the free web servers prompted me to make
folders and later burn them to CDs.

How to find your TIF ( Temporary Internet Files ) folder.

Open a folder and go to...Tools / Folder Options / View tab.

Tick..."Show Hidden Files and Folders" / Apply / OK.

Now...you'll find you TIF folder at the following location:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Temporary Internet
Files

Thanks for your guidance. I have not as yet completed the task of
allocating <jpg> pictures to different folders. I still get
not-responding if I want to take a big leap covering many pics at
scattered places in the find window. So I take small steps to copy the pics.
