Transfering files with foreign characters across a LAN network

I have been trying to transfer a folder and I get an error
message about a file not being able to be read. It
essentially says: "Nan_.wav" not available. The actual
title of the file is "Nanã". Windows 2000 pro is not
recognizing foreign characters in the name of the file.
Besides changing ALL these names, is there an update/patch
that can help me with this?

Are there operating systems other than Windows anywhere in the system? What
kind of transfer are you doing?
