Our family may get a 2nd computer later this year, running Windows XP
Home Edition. Our current computer is running Windows 98 First Edition.
Naturally, we will want to transfer some files to the new computer, and I
was wondering if the fact that XP uses a different file system (NTFS as
opposed to FAT32) will potentially cause any trouble? The stuff I would
transfer would mostly be pictures and text, but perhaps a few .wav and .avi
files too.

No trouble. NTFS is a method of managing disk space, nothing to do with
file formats.

None at all. You can transfer files between files systems without
a problem.

By the way, it is *not* necessarily true that XP uses NTFS.
Although I recommend that you use NTFS, it's important to
recognize that it's your choice. NTFS is entirely optional, and
if for some reason you prefer to use FAT32, you are able to do
so.
