I have set up a home network that will allow me to transfer files from my
desktop to laptop shared folders via router using the windows network set up
wizard.
However, when I try to transfer files in reverse (from laptop to desktop) I
get a message saying that I am not authorised to do so and to see my network
manager.

This seems pointless as my network manager is me and I haven't got a clue.

I am using Windows XP Home SP2 on desktop and Windows XP Professional on
laptop.

Does anyone out there know what I have to do to authorise my laptop to
nplace files in desktop's shared folder?

Any help would be appreciated as I can't understand how I can transfer files
from desktop to laptop, but not visa versa.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

My first guess would be that this has to do with the differences between XP
Home and Professional when it comes to users and access rights.
This article might be helpfull: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304040

It basically states that all incoming connections to the XP Home (desktop)
are authorized as "guest". Which means you need to provide "Guest" with write
access to the shared folder.

The router firewall cannot be the issue, and that the windows xp firewall on
either of the computers is causing this is highly unlikely as your computers
are both on the same (internal) network.

Cheers,

Christian
