Any sugestions? Its a Canon PowerShot S1 IS. It needs to be very simple, as
it is for my folks.

Best regards

Read the manual.

Oh no, not the manual!!!! :-)

I know Canon's got a program to transfere the pictures, but its not very
good. Can it be mounted as a drive? (I don't have the manual, it's at my
folks)

Best regards

This is the one I use with my (old) Canon. Not KISS but IMO not too bad
to set-up. It renames my photos by date as they are downloaded - various
other rename options available, it's quite configurable. Recommended.

Just use Irfanview:
1. File > select Twain Source > select your camera
2. File > aquire
3. Your camera's software will take over (not the Zoombrowser, but the
twain)

Your Canon Twain driver must be installed for this. You can usually install
this without all the other software.

Or:
Buy your folks a card reader ($15.-)
You can then place the camera memory card into the card reader, which will
be seen as a drive by your PC
(for W98 there will have to be a "once only" installation of a card reader
driver).
Good luck
H.N.
